The Eloi are the descendents of the wealthy, upper-classes in Wells’s time, and thus, in many ways, the cause of the mistreatment of the laborers. Yet, in the future, the Time Traveller feels the most connection to Weena and the other Eloi. Does this affect the way you interpret Wells’s critique of British class structure? Why or why not?
Wells discusses intelectual and social complacency through comparisons between his guests, the Eloi and the Morlocks.I n this book Wells wants to show that the utopian society represented by the Eloi actually originated in people like the english of the late 18th Ct. and evolved into the dying society he saw in his voyage because of complacency. The book is discussed in terms of the dichotomy between rich and poor and how it is related to Marx´s Communist Manifesto.
